Porto Alegre, Brazil, 1978. Lives in Porto Alegre.
Rather than creating new forms, Tiago Giora’s work underlines the designs and structures of the places where they are located. The starting point for his work is the invisibility that architecture acquires over time. Erasure, infill, recessing, spreading, are some of the ways in which the artist rearranges spaces, causing certain characteristics to reverberate and also rearranging our perception of places. In the installation Fluorescentes (2009) for Centro Cultural São Paulo, the artist extended to the floor the lines of hundreds of fluorescent bulbs lighting the building, to call attention to one of the features of the place, while in the intervention De Dentro [From the inside] (2007), at Torreão in Porto Alegre, two corners of the exhibition space were sectioned off with planes of plasterboard, hiding part of the skirting boards, walls, ceilings and windows. These and others of Giora’s works involve the artist’s installations absorbing a place, making it hard to discern which is work and which is context.
Casa M’s, showcase is dispensed with, emphasising the connections between the indoor space and the street through the artist’s intervention on the facade.
