Since I first started working with the net I’ve been fascinated by source code, and especially the use of nonfunctional language in source code by programmers and hackers. This is especially common in virus code. When I first came upon a reference to the programmer Khaled Mardam Bey in the source code of the ‘love virus’ I instantly and subliminally connected the name with Sarajevo, a city I photographed intensively in Spring and Summer 1996.

The code excerpts are rasterised, thus rendered harmless, and provide a techno-poetic accompaniment to the images.
For me this offers an interesting opportunity to present a work over the internet, which at the same time has the potential to interact with one (or many) specific spaces around the globe.
It can be viewed from the website (or downloaded and run from a computer)
either via a monitor, or projected large format in an architectural setting.
