The 5th Mercosul Biennial Educational Action program wishes to share with the public the idea that however surprising, strange and unusual certain manifestations of contemporary art may seem they can be understood when inserted into an historical context. This version of the Biennial starts from the point of view that the best Theory of Art is the History of Art itself, or rather that it is through artistic artefacts that we can understand the historical transformations and routes of art itself. Therefore the Educational Action project proposes to reinvent itself, based on the experiences of the previous editions and the central theme of this Biennial, which is concerned with transformations of space and art, proposing reflections upon the public's relationships with contemporary art and the different spaces they live with. From this perspective the city is not only a space for moving through, but is also a space for inserting contemporary art which can stimulate new experiences in relation to the environment and awaken views that are unperceived in everyday life.

From this premise, Educational Action's greater commitment is to produce ideas about the questions of languages of artworks, and also propose discussions about the relations between man and space, in view of the different ways in which we live and perceive contemporary spatiality. In this way Educational Action takes on the role of catalyst between the public and the works: different works, seen by different publics in different spaces awaken different views - stimulating perception and generating enriching discussions.

With the aim of strengthening such actions, Educational Action plans to qualify mediators and teachers through a Mediator Training Course and Teachers' Meetings, making educational material available for use in the classroom before and after the visit to the Biennial.

Teachers will be seen as partners in the construction of Educational Action, their activities being fundamental. There will also be an Educational Space, which is a place intended to be the base for Cultural Meetings (weekly lectures with artists and guests), providing a bibliographical collection and video library for research and study, internet access and assistance related to development of pre- and post-visit work.
