Historical Nucleus I - The (Re) invention of Space

Although a view of sculpture as statuary still exists, the best investigation of space, which has developed since the 1950s in Brazil and Latin America, is a tributary of the great modern triumphs affirmed by constructivism. This nucleus, and also the work of the artist of honour - Amílcar de Castro, clearly shows this change that emancipates local sculptural experience and places it on a more consistent level in relation to its modernist past. The definitive contributions of Latin American art to the history of 20th century art appear in this nucleus. This recognition, its historiographical inclusion, depends exclusively on the affirmative actions that we can develop around the theme. The national and international diffusion of the Biennial should be one of these.
