Marina Abramovic was born in Belgrade in 1946. She lives in Amsterdam and New York. She became internationally recognised for her very radical performances and her work has become an international reference about questions concerning the body in art. Working with her companion Ulay, Marina did performances that have become famous, such as the journey on the Great Wall of China, where she parted with her companion, terminating a 12-year partnership. Her present work is strongly influenced by Buddhism. Marina will be showing "Count on Us", 2004, in the Mercosul Biennial, This is a video-installation in which a choir of 280 children from her homeland sing a song about the United Nations, which is the name of a school in former Yugoslavia.
