Creative Paths

The project “ Creative Paths: Training in Visual Arts and Cultural Projects ” is aimed at young people aged 16 and over, all students in High School and Youth and Adult Education (EJA) in Alvorada, and most of them living in the Umbu neighborhood, one of the socially vulnerable territories covered by RS Seguro COMunidade, from the state government.

Goals

The course aims to train these young people in the field of visual arts, providing them with theoretical and practical tools so that they can develop and execute creative projects, fostering their protagonism in artistic and cultural production and promoting direct contact with workers in the area. With professional guidance, the training seeks to prepare them to complete all stages of organizing a cultural event, providing them with the resources to work as curators, art educators, producers, editors, managers and visual artists.

Training

The project "Creative Paths: Training in Visual Arts and Cultural Projects" is aimed at young people aged 16 and over, all of whom are high school or Youth and Adult Education (EJA) students in Alvorada, most of them residing in the Umbu neighborhood—one of the areas of social vulnerability covered by the RS Seguro COMunidade program, from the state government.

The course aims to train these young individuals in the field of visual arts, providing them with both theoretical and practical tools so they can develop and implement creative projects. It fosters their leadership in artistic and cultural production while promoting direct contact with professionals in the field. With a vocational orientation, the program prepares them to handle every stage of organizing a cultural event, equipping them to act as curators, art educators, producers, installers, managers, and visual artists.

The training spans six months, from December 2024 to May 2025, and is divided into three phases. The first consists of theoretical classes at the Alvorada Youth Center (CJ), covering concepts and practices within the field of visual arts. The second phase began on March 18, 2025, in the capital city, where participants took part in a series of technical visits during the setup of the 14th Mercosul Biennial. They returned in April to see the finished exhibition, closely observing the processes involved in producing a major show and interacting with the various professionals engaged in it. In the final phase, participants will create a cultural project for the Umbu neighborhood, promoting local engagement and encouraging the strengthening of community culture and social impact in their own territory. The resulting exhibition will take place on June 14, 2025.

Developed from a joint work plan among partner institutions, Creative Paths: Training in Visual Arts and Cultural Projects benefits from the expertise of the Fundação Bienal do Mercosul in the professional development of individuals in the visual arts. Additionally, the project implemented affirmative action quotas in its selection process and provides psychosocial and socio-educational support to participants.

The training of young people in Alvorada is one of the artistic and cultural initiatives being carried out in the RS Seguro Comunidade territories. Partners in this program alongside the Fundação Bienal do Mercosul include EduSpace, Sedac, and the Roberto Marinho Foundation.
