Sobre o evento

The goal is to collectively activate, for the first time, the work "Brújula," presented by artist Nicole L'Hullier at the Mercosul Biennial. This activation aims to energize a community in motion through a sound and resonant exchange based on pulsating rhythms and codes. Guided by the Pulsa Candombe group, we will move from the street to the interior of the Mario Quinata Cultural Center, where the installation is located. Once we reach the main sculpture on the terrace, the rhythms of the ensemble and the sounds of the people will be the force that activates and awakens Brújula, so that it can be charged with the energy of that moment and, thus, calibrate itself with these relational codes as a primary force for its life at the Mercosul Biennial.

Pulsa Candombe is a group formed by women and Candombeira dissidents, whose aim is to practice and experience Candombe, an Afro-Uruguayan cultural movement.

We think of a safe space that supports mothers, and all forms of femininity, thinking of a space based on the power of being in the collective.

Using the pulse of the drum as a point to translate these plural narratives that spring from each woman's being.

We seek to enhance our desire to learn candombe and to practice candombe in its various forms of re-existence, such as through playing, dancing, singing, poetry and drawing.

The meetings have been taking place since 2021, when the Candombe movement in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, resurfaced. Currently, we number more than 20 women and meet sporadically to practice Candombe, mainly during demonstrations that focus on the freedom of our bodies.
