Begun in the 1980s, the successful heritage designation process that preserves the architectural history of the Bixiga neighborhood is under constant threat, but remains defended by the community. In the same area, for 40 years, the oldest theater company in the country has been fighting to preserve its headquarters and the land that houses a river with piped drinking water less than
4 meters above the surface.
