TEACHING MATERIAL
Dialogues – Teaching material for the 13th Mercosur Biennial
The 13th Mercosul Biennial's Educational Project organizes activities aimed at promoting the qualification of art education and the development of critical and creative thinking on an ongoing basis. For this edition, in the months leading up to the 13th Biennial, the educational material "Diálogos" (Dialogues) was produced. It was addressed to teachers in the state and municipal public schools and distributed via the Rio Grande do Sul State Department of Education (Seduc) and the Porto Alegre Municipal Department of Education (SMED) for classroom use throughout the year.
This game consists of 40 cards, divided into three thematic sets: Trauma, Dream, and Escape. Each set consists of 13 cards that present diverse voices and perspectives based on these themes, plus a wild card. Six different ways to play are suggested: four based on the use of the card texts, based on structures, spaces, and times of conversation, and two based on the use of the images on the back of the cards.
The material departs from the traditional format of art work cards on display. Instead, it encourages the creation of new meanings, seeking to unravel as much as possible the fabric of the text, illustrations, and their endless connections.
700 units of the material were produced, including:
• 102 distributed through SMED to 58 Schools in the Municipal Public Network of Porto Alegre.
• 400 distributed by SEDUC to 97 State Schools in nine cities in the Metropolitan Region (Porto Alegre, São Leopoldo, Guaíba, Canoas, Alvorada, Cachoeirinha, Glorinha, Gravataí and Viamão).
• 39 distributed among collections and libraries of the Educational Projects of the Biennial’s exhibition spaces, the Teachers’ Chamber and the Supervision Team.
• 80 reserved for distribution among teachers from Municipal Public Schools in Meetings with Educators promoted by the Educational Project of the 13th Biennial.
• 79 units reserved for guests of the Educational Project, sponsors and the Documentation and Research Center of the Biennial Foundation.
