ANA GALLARDO

(Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1958)

I was born in Rosario, Argentina, and I have lived between Mexico, Spain and Buenos Aires. I had no formal education, I am self-taught. I have a training acquired in artists' studios such as Víctor Grippo, Miguel Dávila, Jorge Diciervo and Juan Doffo. I have an inherited idea of how to go through artistic practices, since my parents were artists. My mother a painter and my father a poet. By the 80s I joined the Group of X and with them I learned how art is thought. I lived in Mexico since the late 80s and early 90s, where my daughter Rocío was born. I work in parallel to my work, in a series of independent projects aimed at promoting local art, giving visibility to practices that do not enter commercial or institutional circuits and linking women artists, mainly, from different generations. These activities have taken place in every space I have had, even in my own home. In 2005/2006 we held Periférica, the first exhibition fair self-managed by artists. Espacio Forest was a project carried out in 2013, and currently La Verdi (2014/2017) and La Verdi México (2017/2018). I am interested in work processes. To give value to all those moments that generate doubts, uncertainty, discomfort. I particularly have a lot of consideration for everything that is considered unsuccessful. I gloat at collective work. I approach different levels of violence and currently focus on the violence of aging.
