Bauhaus 1919, Modelo para Armar (Bauhaus 1919, Model to Assemble), refers, on one hand, the year of foundation of the Bauhaus art school and, on the other, the title of Julio Cortázar’s novel “62/ Modelo para Armar”. Paul Klee, Vassily Kandisnki, Moholy Nagy, Marcel Breuer, Josef Albers, Johannes Itten, among others, were teachers at Bauhaus. Günta Stolz was the only female teacher. Elvira highlights the women’s role within the school, as they worked in textile and ceramics workshops, but not in the blacksmithing or architecture workshops. They allegedly had problems with three-dimensionality. Marianne Brandt, at the blacksmithing shop, was an exception. Another exception was Grete Stern, who graduated as a photographer and developed her activities in Argentina. Gonzalo Elvira takes the portraits of the women at Bauhaus and use them as a starting point to draw his representations. The latter are part of the site-specific drawing at Biennial 12. Elvira’s work prompts a reflection over photography and emphasizes the women's role at Bauhaus.
