LUCIA LAGUNA

Jardim n. 20

2014

Acrílico e óleo sobre tela

160 x 160 cm

Coleção Paulo Sartori

Being a part of the Jardim series, Lucia Laguna’s works in exhibitions offer a possibility to glance at the expanded senses of the “landscape” concept structured by the artist. For Laguna, landscape is what she sees from the windows of her studio: the Mangueira hill and the suburbs from Rio de Janeiro northern zone; landscape is the garden in her house, a type of archeologic site of life, created by a combination of plants and objects gathered for more than forty tears - statuettes and broken vases, keys, locks, grids and other disposed objects; landscape is, also, the set of objects allocated in her studio: finished and ongoing paintings, small studies, ladders and measuring tapes, painting packages, tools and masses of used tape, glued to the wall or piled up on the floor. When stating “Landscape is something from my head”, Laguna keeps on enlarging the concept, eclipsing the limits between external space and her inner, more intimate universe.
