In her sculptures, Marcela Astorga deals with collapsed debris guided by an ideas of caring and of rescue. She covers the debris with metal blades, taking care and protects them. 'Óculo' (“Glasses”) consolidates in the thought and possibility of changing the situation of a real space. It deals with the rupture that generates something new. It pierces the architecture and makes it permeable like a skin; communicates the interior with the outside. This video installation records the partial destruction of the ceiling of a shady space in which light penetrates and transforms the perceptual experience of space. The beating sound on the ceiling and the images of the light beams that are generated, are narrative elements of this installation video. The glasses are set to star in a constellation (Southern Cross). In the destruction, a landscape of lights is built; like a new sky on the human scale.
