Kan Xuan is a visual artist known for her experimental videos and considered one of China's most important female video artists. One by One is a video in which she registers the idea of movement as if she were on a moving train. When the camera stops, it focuses on military attire. The moment the images advance quickly, one can hear the city sounds, its blows and drills, and above them, the bird songs. The speed of the images molds a visual texture, a video in which the contradictions of urban life are redoubled, the tensions city x nature, and the city regulation. Kan Xuan's films, seemingly light, fluid, and silent, hint subtle political allusions.
