La Otra (The Other) is a series of photographs in which Natalia Iguiñiz develops devices to analytically unfold the cultural codes that regulate the relations between the female domestic workers and her employers. In between their close bodies, the picture depicts entangled relationships of affection, power, and hierarchy. The work addresses two women, being one responsible for the other's home care. Thus, it produces a class analysis of the women’s relationship with their work. The series portraits, among others, the directors of Forum de Lima gallery (Claudia Polar), from ARCO (the Spanish art fair, Rosario Wenzel), and the artist María Elena Alvarado. The work leads to a reflection on the relationship between the art world and domestic work. The photographs raise class issues: for these women to develop their professional work, others must clean the houses of the first ones. The juxtaposition draws attention to the relations of power, subordination and subjugation existing since colonial and republican Peru, when hired or enslaved women breastfed and cared for the children of the aristocratic families.
