ACTIVITIES

The Educational Project of the 13th Mercosul Biennial organizes activities across multiple platforms and formats, over a long period of time, to promote the improvement of art education and the development of critical and creative thinking on an ongoing basis. To this end, the educational material "Diálogos" ( Dictionaries) was produced for teachers in the state and municipal public schools and distributed through the Rio Grande do Sul State Department of Education and the Porto Alegre Municipal Department of Education for classroom use throughout the year.

A sincere dialogue – Mediation Training Course, which will take place from July 12 to September 14, 2022, at the UFRGS Cultural Center, is aimed at students and professionals interested in contemporary art, education, citizenship, and cultural accessibility who wish to join the event's mediation team. Free of charge and divided into two modules, the course has a total of 25 meetings. It covers practical and theoretical content, including reflections on the themes of this edition of the Biennial: Trauma, Dream, and Escape.

The 13th Biennial's Educational Project is also promoting the seminar "Contact Zones " in the Multipurpose Hall of the Ling Institute, a cultural sponsor of the event. Six meetings, held through November 2022, will bring together figures with diverse backgrounds and experiences for an active dialogue based on the conceptual framework of this edition of the exhibition. The activities are free and held on Saturdays, with a sign language interpreter.

The "Diálogos em Transe" (Transe Dialogues) series of discussions, a partnership with PUCRS Cultura and Tecnopuc, brings together the community to discuss the development of artistic, curatorial, scientific, and executive concepts featured in the "Transe" exhibition, part of the 13th Biennial. The series is part of the Educational Occupations, which include meetings with educators and collaborations by the Educational Project on artistic projects of this Biennial, where active public participation is a key element.

The Educational Project is also hosting the Kitchen Talks – Behind the Scenes of the Biennial series of meetings, held from June to November 2022 at the Ling Institute. These free, monthly, in-person talks bring together members of the Educational Project, production, architecture, engineering, and event staging teams to discuss the development of artistic proposals, from conception to execution and inclusion in the 13th Biennial.

Since March 2022, the Educational Department has been promoting the Meetings with Educators series to establish and strengthen connections and direct dialogue between the Biennial's Educational Department and educators, to discuss and understand their expectations, contingencies, and pedagogical strategies. In partnership with the Education Departments of several municipalities and the State of Rio Grande do Sul, the program aims to serve more than 300 elementary, middle, and high school teachers by the end of September 2022.

The core activity of the Educational Program is mediation in all of the Biennial's exhibition spaces, both for walk-ins and scheduled visitors, throughout the event. To expand access to the exhibition spaces, the Biennial provides buses to transport classes from public schools in the Greater Porto Alegre area to the exhibition spaces.

Over 12 years, the Educational Project has already scheduled 1.2 million school appointments, produced 298,000 teaching materials for students, teachers, and educational institutions, and trained more than 2,000 mediators. The 13th Biennial aims to build on this event's great legacy.
