Eduardo Montelli develops projects across multiple media, exploring themes such as identity construction, self-narration, and the dynamics of social recognition. Initially producing sculptures, installations, and photography, the artist has recently shifted his focus to video performances and internet-based works.
In Plasticidade Redutiva, a piece commissioned for the 14th Mercosul Biennial, multiple screens display looping animations, recalling the dynamics of content in the digital environment. The work highlights the defining characteristics of GIFs. Through sequentially displayed photographs, these animations create an illusion of movement—similar to cinema but achieved through a reduction in informational units (the number of bits per pixel). This process reveals the gaps between each frame, emphasizing the illusion of motion and invoking the aesthetic of error (glitch, in digital language) in image creation.
