(Ishir/Paraguay, 1937-2008)
Ogwa (Ishir/Paraguay, 1937-2008) was an indigenous artist from the Ishir people. Ogwa stood out as one of the leading names in Indigenous art in Paraguay, developing the traditions and worldviews of his people into unique visual creations. From a young age, he was deeply influenced by his community's cultural and spiritual traditions, marked by rituals, mythical narratives, and an intrinsic connection with nature. His artistic work reflects the rich mythology of his people, such as stories about creator gods, forest spirits, and sacred animals. Among the most important exhibitions of his work are projects at the Cartier Foundation, the Museum of America (Madrid), and the Centro Cultural del Lago in Paraguay. He lived much of his life between the Chaco and Asunción, Paraguay.
