Erick Peres

(Brazil, 1994)

Erick Peres’ artistic practice is centered on real and/or fictional stories, shaped through the interplay of image, photography, and text, as well as the artist’s research in his personal archive, alongside those of neighbors and family members. Engaging with the landscape of the area where he grew up, in the eastern zone of Porto Alegre, his work addresses both collective and individual memory, filling in the historical gaps of the neighborhood while highlighting local residents, their memories, and their records. At times, he also constructs autofictional narratives within this context.
In the Fim da Cidade installation, commissioned for the 14th Mercosul Biennial, Peres creates an affective and political map of the Ipê 1 neighborhoods, incorporating photographs, paintings, and various documents from local residents. By assembling these elements, the artist invites reflections on the places where these individuals live and move, addressing the social and economic distances that define life in the periphery of Brazil’s southernmost capital city.
