Froiid

(Brazil, 1986)

Through installations, objects, videos, photographs, and sound pieces, Froiid explores the possible intersections between gaming, technology, art, and their relationships with Brazilian popular culture. Commissioned for the 14th Mercosul Biennial, the artist presents the project Carnavais na Bienal, evoking the memory and legacy of Heitor dos Prazeres, drawing inspiration from the rhythm, visuality, and sheet music of his work Frevo (1964). A painter, composer, and singer, Prazeres depicted the daily life and culture of people in Rio de Janeiro’s communities, as well as the bohemian nightlife of Lapa.
Froiid’s installation features 100 AI-generated illustrations, arranged side by side in a horizontal sequence, along with an instantaneously generated sound composition. A television screen visually displays the unprecedented and audible process of the music shared within the space.
