Letícia Lopes’ work carries the essence of mystery. Drawing from a collection of images—including photographs, postcards, and materials sourced from encyclopedias or the internet—the artist constructs compositions where enigma and secrecy linger over every element, seducing the viewer into a fatal atmosphere filled with hidden dangers.
A dreamlike light washes over her canvases, populated by shadows and nocturnal animals. Veiled narratives emanate silently from the fibers of the canvas or paper. Her works emerge through a mastery of color and vigorous gestural strokes, creating spaces of uncertainty within the pictorial field. In the Suíte Esfinge series of drawings, silhouettes of animals and female bodies appear in scenes that blur the lines between mirages and hallucinations. The dark-painted backgrounds accentuate the contours of figures and landscapes, suggesting a play of appearances where it remains unclear whether they are materializing or fading away.

Letícia Lopes (Brazil, 1988) is a visual artist. In her work practice, she considers painting, drawing, photography, and video as witnesses to transitory states of language, with painting being her primary choice. In her paintings, nothing is certain, and between one painting and another, she passes through the space of the wall, shadows of verbs transfigured into scenes, apparitions, figures and stains, masks, skins, and whispers. Since 2013, she has participated in group and solo exhibitions, and her work has been exhibited in several Brazilian institutions. Her work is part of the permanent collections of the Contemporary Art Museum of Rio Grande do Sul and the Museu Nacional de Belas-Artes. She lives in São Paulo, Brazil.
