Kira Xonorika

(Guarani/Paraguay, 1995)

Artist and futurist Kira Xonorika develops her practice by intertwining research on autonomy, technological science, and science fiction, while also questioning the binary perspective of the Western world—imposed upon the rest of the planet to erase the diversity of world-making and ways of life.
Xonorika’s work actively participates in the creation of the future, both aesthetically and conceptually. She is not interested in time as a linear construct with a fixed and deterministic endpoint, but rather as a series of fluid possibilities in constant interaction and entanglement. For her commissioned work at the 14th Mercosul Biennial, the artist employs artificial intelligence tools to create a video featuring entity-characters who are simultaneously the subjects and the environments they inhabit. The piece presents the interdependence between human existence-survival and the existence of all forms of life on the planet. By using these tools, the artist explores their limitations and embedded biases, which shape contemporary life.
